Can the Volvo EX30 prove that the best things really do come in small packages?
Yesterday on 7 June 2023, Swedish automaker, Volvo, shared a video on their Youtube featuring the brand’s CEO, Jim Rowan, unveiling (or rather unboxing), the all-new fully electric Volvo EX30 small SUV. So do the best things really come in small packages or is the little SUV all bark and no bite? Let’s find out.
As a small SUV that does big Volvo things, the new fully electric Volvo EX30 was designed to be as safe as one would expect from the brand while having the smallest CO2 footprint of any Volvo car to date, and to make life safer, more convenient and more enjoyable through cutting-edge technology and Scandinavian design.
Moreover, Jim Rowan, CEO of Volvo Cars said, “The fully electric EX30 might be our smallest ever SUV, but it’s a big deal for our customers and a big deal for us as a company. We like to say the EX30 is small yet mighty, because it delivers on everything you’d want from a Volvo but in a smaller package. Like any Volvo, it’s an outstanding product which is safe and designed around people and their needs.”
The Volvo EX30 is also as unconventional as it is stylish as instead of coming in a typical pre-determined battery setup, one can choose the battery capacity of their SUV giving it a multitude of powertrain options to choose from. The same can be said about the electric motor or motors as one can choose either, depending on their needs.
It should be noted that should one prioritise performance in their Volvo EX30, then the dual motor setup would be the ideal choice as it gives the car 428hp to play with making it the fastest Volvo ever with a century sprint time of just 3.6 seconds. Not bad for a small electric SUV, eh?
On top of that, the Volvo EX30 is also designed to have the lowest carbon footprint of any Volvo to date and represents an important step forward for the brand’s sustainability ambitions. By tackling emissions across the entire production, the total carbon footprint over 200,000km of driving is brought to below 30 tonnes.
Of course, being a Volvo, the EX30 is designed to be as safe as possible so it comes equipped as standard with a special safety feature for bikes that helps to prevent so-called ‘dooring’ accidents, by alerting you when you are about to open your door in front of a cyclist, bikers or runner among all the other expected safety features.
The Volvo EX30 also aims to make your life more convenient, by including cutting-edge tech and considerate Scandinavian interior design, allowing one to choose from four distinct interior rooms, each with their own expression, an intelligent self parking and so much more.
So what do you guys think of the all-new Volvo EX30? I am personally really intrigued to see if it really does make waves or if Malaysians deem it to be too small. Check out the official “unboxing” video of the car here or visit the Official Volvo Malaysia website linked here for more information.
