The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) is celebrating its 26th birthday in a grand way this August. The MPO A Night at the Opera wil take place on Saturday, 17 August 2024 at 8.30 pm at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP), KLCC.

Music And Emotion

Over the two decades, the MPO has consistently entertained and enthralled music lovers with its accomplished artistry second to none.

Renowned for its versatility and innovative programme, the MPO remains committed to provide nothing but the best in music for the nation, further affirming its stature as a premier orchestra in this region.

Operatic Performance

In conjunction with its anniversary celebration this year, the MPO will present much-loved operatic works by Puccini, Verdi, Mascagni and Respighi. The performance will see soprano Nika Gorič make her debut on the DFP stage.

She has sung the roles of Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Gilda (Rigoletto) and Adele (Die Fledermaus) among others.

Thus far, her concert highlights include with the Berlin Philharmonie, Australian Chamber Orchestra and Philharmonia Orchestra. As a renowned soprano, she is reknowned for her beautiful phrasing with a wide range of vocal colours, distinct expressions and strong stage presence.

Creative Collaborators

This celebration will witness Estonian conductor Arvo Volmer leading the MPO. He is widely acclaimed for his powerful performances in both opera and concert, particularly for his interpretations of Mahler, Sibelius, Russian and contemporary works.

In 2004, he became the Music Director of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra which he toured with to Los Angeles and New York. He has collaborated with orchestras such as the BBC Philharmonic, Taiwan and Singapore Symphonies, and the prominent orchestras of Australia.

A General Music Director of the Estonian National Opera, he has made an extensive number of recordings including the complete symphonies of Sibelius, Tubin and Edwards.
