Omega goes classic with the vintage return of ‘the first Omega in Space’ this year

Omega has made waves in the watch world with the reintroduction of one of its most iconic timepieces, now enhanced with a modern Co-Axial Master Chronometer update. Known as ‘The First Omega in Space,’ this exquisite watch pays homage to the brand’s rich history of space exploration, blending heritage-inspired design with cutting-edge technology.

Back In 1959

Originally launched in 1959, the CK 2998 marked the second generation of the beloved Speedmaster family. Its sleek Alpha hands, symmetrical case, and distinctive dark bezel set it apart from its predecessor, which debuted in 1957. This model captured the attention of NASA astronaut Walter “Wally” Schirra, who wore it during the Sigma 7 mission on 3 October 1962, solidifying its nickname and kickstarting Omega’s legacy in the cosmos.

The revamped CK 2998 retains its classic 39.70 mm polished-brushed stainless steel case, reflecting the timeless elegance that has captivated watch enthusiasts for decades. The black aluminium bezel features the essential tachymeter scale, including the famed “Dot Over Ninety,” a nod to the earliest Speedmaster models. Omega In Space

A Premium Look And Feel

Beneath the new hesalite-like sapphire crystal lies a grey-blue CVD-coated dial that echoes the tones of 1960s CK 2998 watches. Vintage Super-LumiNova fills the hour markers and Alpha hands, while the central seconds hand boasts a pristine white varnish. In keeping with its heritage, this timepiece showcases two vintage Omega logos, one on the dial and another on the crown.

Additionally, the caseback features a striking Seahorse medallion alongside engravings that commemorate its historic flight: “SPEEDMASTER,” “THE FIRST Omega IN SPACE,” and “OCTOBER 3, 1962.”Watch

Upgraded

Modern advancements mean this collection is powered by the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861, representing the pinnacle of precision, performance, and magnetic resistance, a significant upgrade from the original Calibre 321.

There are three stunning models to choose from, each available on a black or brown leather strap or a full metal bracelet with Omega’s patented comfort release adjustment system. Each watch comes in a special presentation box, complete with an exclusive LEGENDARY MOONWATCH leaflet, making it a perfect tribute to both timekeeping and space exploration.
