The King is back for a limited time only in Sydney
Shaun Parker and Company have announced that they will be bringing back their internationally acclaimed production of King in the form of a limited return season. That’s right, at the upcoming Sydney WorldPride Arts 20023, you too can enjoy this rerun.
Along with other exclusive Australian live performances, this production of King will be performed live by world renowned Bulgarian singer/songwriter, Ivo Dimchev. Fans will be pleased to know that the seductive original score from Dimchev which pushes forward the narrative of this inspired choreography is returning.
Moreover, the original performance of King was praised as the runaway hit success of the 2019 Sydney Mardi Gras Festival and applauded by critics from all over. This extraordinary music and dance collaboration led by acclaimed Australian director/ choreographer, Shaun Parker and Dimchev is performed spectacularly by a cast of 9 young Australian dancers.
Being under one of Australia’s most esteemed contemporary dance companies only adds to the excitement of the talent and the mesmerizing on-stage magic of Dimchev’s soulful cabaret crooner. This is surely what every fan is most excited for when it comes to this run of King and they are sure to be satisfied.
Set in a wondrous realm that’s part cocktail-bar and part jungle, King mixes avant-garde choreography with an unforgettable theatrical and musical experience in a suggestive whirlpool of so many themes and questions that Dance Australia Magazine says it is sure to “keep you on the edge of your seat to the very end.”
Despite having to be shut down due to the pandemic, this production of King will ascend just like its namesake would and officially relaunch ahead of a European tour. Fans can enjoy the production at the Seymour Centre Sydney’s Everest Theatre on 28 February 2023 until Saturday 4 March 2023 for a total of only 6 shows.
Although we do have to mention that the King production contains full frontal nudity and adult themes so parents, you may want to make sure your young kids sit this one out.
