Squid Game is coming back with Netflix officially announcing a season 2.

The news will no doubt appease fans. After all, very few shows in the history of television have experienced the euphoria that Squid Game generated. Starring Lee Jung-Jae (New World, Assassination) and Park Hae-Soo (Time to Hunt, Prison Playbook), Squid Game unveiled a thrilling story of murder, mystery and human drama. The story began with a mysterious invitation to join the game is sent to people at risk who are in dire need of money.

Squid Game Season 2A total of 456 participants from all walks of life are locked into a secret location where they play games in order to win 45.6 billion won. The twist? Every game is a Korean traditional children’s game such as Red Light, Green Light, but the consequence of losing is death. Who will be the winner, and what is the purpose behind this game?

The 9-episode series made its debut on 17 September 2021, and it immediately pulled in 1.65 billion hours of viewing within the first 28 days. Not surprising news of a sequel began circulating, and now Netflix has made it official with Squid Game Season 2 set to hit screens sometime in the near future.

Hyping up the announcement, director, writer, and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk, penned a letter to fans. On a post on Instagram, he wrote…

“It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever.

As the writer, director, and producer of ‘Squid Game,’ a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show. 

And now, Gi-hun returns.

The Front Man returns.

Season 2 is coming.

The man in the suit with ddakji might be back.

You’ll also be introduced to Young-hee’s boyfriend, Cheol-su. 

Join us once more for a whole new round.”

So there you have it, Squid Game is coming back for a season 2 and it looks like there’s more mysteries to unravel. Netflix though hasn’t revealed when the new season will arrive or production as well as casting details yet.

One thing is for sure though, the producers will find new inventive ways to kill off the characters using kid’s games throughout the new season.
