Time to bust out the tweed and flat caps — Peaky Blinders is coming back as a full-length movie. Cillian Murphy will reprise his role as Birmingham gangster Tommy Shelby in a new film coming to Netflix, made in association with BBC Film.
Gangster Moves
Production has commenced on the highly anticipated Peaky Blinders feature film, an epic continuation of the multi-award-winning gangster saga, set in the lawless streets of Birmingham in the 1900s.The film is written by the show’s creator, Steven Knight, who produces alongside Patrick Holland, Cillian Murphy, and Guy Heeley.
“I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen. It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story,” expressed Knight. “No holds barred. Full on Peaky Blinders at war.”
Star Power
Joining Murphy in the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie are Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, and Barry Keoghan. Tom Harper is in the director’s chair for this epic story.
“When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive,” said Harper.
“Peaky has always been a story about family – and so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix.”
A Word From ‘Tommy’
Set in Birmingham between 1919 and 1934, Peaky Blinders followed the rise (and sometimes fall) of the Shelby family as they navigated a world wracked with radical social, economic, and political change. At the core of the story is Tommy Shelby.
“It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me,” said Murphy. “It is very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.”
