Why are we missing out on the BMW i5 M60 Touring
Now in its sixth generation, the BMW 5-Series Touring presents itself more than ever as a cultivated all-rounder with an elegantly distinctive design, inspiring sportiness, versatility and spacious comfort in a progressive premium ambience.
Once upon a time in Malaysia the station-wagon (or better known also as ‘touring’) was the ‘must have’ vehicle for the above middle class and the affluent as its selling price made a prime candidate for high-ranking government servants and corporate managers.
Its popularity went from the very late 1970s to the early 1990s before the MPV revolution started. This was the time when families managed to pack in 3 kids and maybe an in-law or two in the rear in relative comfort for a journey on the back coastal road back to their respective ‘kampung’ with no issues and worries.
Today, with the MPV revolution in full swing, a seven seater is unable to accommodate the same number of humans. Startling is it not. What is even more startling being the number of small one-child families investing in a large lumberous MPV.
So, please do put any hope at all on BMW Malaysia introducing this special vehicle to Malaysia.
The exterior dimensions of the new BMW 5-Series Touring are slightly larger than those of its predecessor, emphasizing its dynamically stretched proportions and increasing the amount of space available in both rows of seats.
The vehicle concept of the BMW 5-Series Touring is specifically tailored to the requirements of target groups in Europe and the Japanese automobile market where the combination of sporty elegance and increased transport capacity has long been particularly appreciated. The latest model generation will be launched in Europe in May 2024.
Other markets will follow in June 2024. By far the most important sales region for the new BMW 5-Series Touring is the German home market, followed by Great Britain, Italy, Sweden, Belgium and Japan.
Like the new BMW 5-Series Sedan, the Touring model is also based on a flexible drive architecture. It enables the new BMW 5-Series Touring to be equipped with highly efficient petrol and diesel engines including 48- volt mild hybrid technology, plug-in hybrid systems and as the first model of its kind in the premium segment of the upper mid-range segment also with a purely electric drive.
All these variants are produced on a joint production line at the BMW Group plant in Dingolfing.
