Talk about a dream team-up.
Louis Vuitton and the National Basketball Association (NBA) have come together once more for another collaboration. The partnership between the two dates back to 2020 under the guidance of the late Virgil Abloh.
For 2022, both Louis Vuitton and the NBA have come together for another collab. The Louis Vuitton x NBA 2022 capsule collection is dedicated to luggage. Inspired by travel, the third capsule drop not only celebrates the values of the game of basketball but also the very best qualities of Louis Vuitton.
It also helps immensely that Abloh also loved the game and that is reflected in the new pieces that is present in the new collection. Each piece echoes the values of challenge, team spirit, camaraderie and universality.
Louis Vuitton x NBA 2022 Collection
The Christopher backpack, iconic Keepall 55, Dopp Kit and Pocket Organizer all feature this season. They’re joined by two exceptional pieces – a case that can store eight watches and the signature Malle Courrier, both dressed in NBA colours for the very first time.
All the designs, crafted from Monogram-embossed electric blue Taurillon leather, display a new oversized LV signature in the shape of a basketball that boasts the NBA logo colours. As seen in the collection, each iconic motif has been subtly revamped. A basketball net appears on the side of the Keepall, which also features gold chains and metal details as a nod to the famous NBA trophy.
The essence of basketball, a legendary sport that emanates contagious and inspiring energy, has never been more accurately captured than in this iconic range of Louis Vuitton luggage. In keeping with the original spirit of the LV x NBA line, the pieces are as recognisable as they are sought-after, and reinvent all the season’s silhouettes.
Hand Crafted For Champions
Louis Vuitton has also extended its expertise beyond the confines of fashion. The maison has also created an exceptional new Official Travel Trunk for the NBA’s Larry O’Brien Trophy, the pinnacle of basketball achievement.
The new case is designed to protect the newly created trophy in style. In creating this unique piece, artisans at Louis Vuitton’s legendary Asnières atelier, just outside Paris, carefully hand-crafted a brand-new Louis Vuitton Travel Trunk for the NBA’s redesigned Larry O’Brien Trophy.
With a design based upon the trunks the Maison has been producing for over 160 years, it features an exterior covered in emblematic Monogram canvas with heavyweight brass closures and fittings, and an interior lined with soft microfibre and sporting the NBA’s 75th Anniversary logo.
The trunk’s precisely constructed folding doors are decorated with a beautifully hand painted V – for victory – in the red, white and blue of the NBA, and a basketball logo featuring the Maison’s initials, the symbol of Louis Vuitton’s association with the NBA.
The 2022 NBA Trophy Case is another landmark in Louis Vuitton’s long history of creating bespoke travel cases for the world’s most iconic trophies. This includes cases for the FIFA World Cup, the Rugby World Cup 2023, the Davis Cup, and the Formula 1 Grand Prix de Monaco.
