The Loewe Foundation Craft Prize is back and it is ready to celebrate innovation
The Loewe Foundation Craft Prize, launched in 2016, stands as a prestigious platform celebrating the artistry and innovation within modern craft. Founded by Loewe’s creative director, Jonathan Anderson, the prize honours the legacy of Loewe’s origins as a collective craft workshop dating back to 1846.
An Opportunity For All
Open to craftsmen and craftswomen globally, aged 18 and above, the prize attracts participants from diverse craft-based professions. The winner of the prize receives a significant award of 50,000 euros, while two special mentions are awarded 5,000 euros each.
Jonathan Anderson emphasises the timeless relevance of craft in contemporary culture, “Craft is always going to be modern. It is about creating objects that have a unique language and generate new dialogues.” This sentiment underscores the prize’s mission to celebrate both tradition and innovation in craft, fostering a dialogue that transcends boundaries and enriches cultural heritage.
Honourable Judges
A distinguished panel of judges evaluates submissions based on several criteria, including originality, artistic vision, execution precision, material excellence, innovation, and the distinct imprint of the artist.
On top of that, the shortlisted works are showcased in an exclusive exhibition at the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in Madrid, providing a platform for the public to engage with and appreciate the finest contemporary craftsmanship.
The Main Event
The climax of the prize is the selection of the winning piece by the esteemed jury during the exhibition. The announcement of the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize 2025 laureate takes place in a ceremonial event at the museum in spring 2025, highlighting the pinnacle of achievement in modern craft.
By celebrating craftsmanship that pushes boundaries and embodies artistic vision, the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize not only honours tradition but also propels the craft field into an innovative and dynamic future. It stands as a beacon for excellence, inspiring craftsmen and craftswomen worldwide to redefine the possibilities of their craft and leave a lasting impact on global cultural heritage.
