Girard-Perregaux Presents Three Unique Cosmos Timepieces

The three timepieces are the final editions of the Cosmos watches
Girard-Perregaux first released the Cosmos series of timepieces in 2019 and it perfectly highlighted the horological prowess of the Swiss watchmaker. It was a technological marvel which showcased the highest level of artisanal craftsmanship as it was equipped with three exceptional complications.
Now, as a swansong sendoff to the iconic and exceptional timepiece, Maison Girard-Perregaux is designing three unique versions of the Cosmos timepiece. The first one is made of aventurine, the second one made of obsidian and onyx and the third and final one being a combination of spectrolite and aventurine.
Just as the original, the three versions of the Cosmos watches now are equipped with three complications including a tourbillon. This mechanism is designed to counter the adverse influence of gravity on the regulating organ, a terrestrial globe and a celestial globe.
The tourbillon on the Cosmos watches is presented at the base of the dial and features a titanium lyre-shaped cage. This mechanism is held in place by the signature Girard-Perregaux Neo bridge which is a modern interpretation of the company’s ‘arrow-shaped’ bridge from the 19th century.
What’s more, the terrestrial globe element on the Girard-Perregaux cosmos watches is located at the 3 o’clock of the watch dial. It serves as a day/night indicator while the celestial globe is located at the 9 o’ clock and it displays the constellations of the Zodiac. All three unique timepieces feature two-part dials.
Another stand out feature of the new Cosmos collection is that the elements on the dial are arranged with due consideration to symmetry and the result is a dial layout that is balanced and cohesive. The watches also forgo the conventional crown in favor of an innovative winding and setting system.
Additionally, the Girard-Perregaux brand became known for crafting exquisite expressions of Haute Horlogerie ever since it was founded in 1791 and the Cosmos watches reflect this reputation as well. The timepieces are also equipped with the Calibre GP093020, a hand-wound movement enriched with high-end finishing.
Fusing the arts of design, Metiers d’Art and watchmaking excellence, the cosmos watches are truly one-of-a-kind, or rather, three-of-a-kind, in this case. Sadly, all good things must come to an end and so Girard-Perregaux and the world will soon bid farewell to the Cosmos series of watches.
