Enjoy a taste of Tokiko Kato and Japanese Music with the MPO
The Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP) continues its 25th anniversary celebration this year. This time it presents another unique and fun concert by renowned Japanese singer Tokiko Kato on Wednesday, 20 September 2023 at 8.00pm at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas, Petronas Twin Towers, KLCC.
A Taste Of Japan
Themed Love Songs, from Soul to Soul Across the Sea, this special concert will witness Kato collaborate with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) and will be led by Naohisa Furusawa. The concert is also supported by The Embassy of Japan and Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur.
Moreover, this concert is in line with the DFP’s continuous effort in presenting a variety of music genres that appeal to audiences from all walks of life. DFP, which can seat 920 people at one time, is renowned for its excellent acoustics.

Born in Harbin in 1943, Kato won the Japan Amateur Chanson Competition in 1965 and since then, has recorded more than 80 albums throughout her illustrious career churning many hit songs in Japan.
She has also performed all around the world including at Carnegie Hall in New York in 1988 and received the prestigious Chevalier Medal for Culture in 1992 from the Government of France for her artistic achievements and cultural activities so she is no stranger to large crowds either.
Diverse Talent
On top of being active as a singer, Kato has also appeared in the film Izakaya Choji (1983) and was a voice actor for the memorable Ghibli Studio’s animated film, Porco Rosso (1992) screened in France, the USA and Italy. She also sang and composed Le Temps des Cherises (The Time of Cherries) in Porco Rosso.
In this special concert, Kato and the MPO will present a grandeur symphonic version of Kato’s songs perfectly complementing her angelic voice. She will sing her hits such as Talk of Times Past, If You Love Me, Anak, A Million Roses, songs from the Porco Rosso film, and The Beatles’ Imagine.
