The DFP and MPO are gearing up for their 27th concert season with an exciting lineup of international and local artists. The 2025 season, under the theme Where Every Beat Tells A Story, promises a series of musical experiences that will captivate audiences with timeless masterpieces and innovative performances.
A New Director
This season marks the arrival of Junichi Hirokami as the MPO’s new Music Director. With his expert leadership, Hirokami is set to elevate the MPO’s artistic level, bringing fresh interpretations to the orchestra’s repertoire. The season will feature Hirokami conducting three concerts, including a special collaboration with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra in September.
Fans of cinematic music will also be treated to two iconic movie screenings, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in January and La La Land in May. These screenings will feature the MPO performing the movie scores live, offering a unique, immersive experience for film and music lovers alike.
Legends
The season will look at celebrating the legendary figures from the world of music. A concert celebrating the music of Frank Sinatra & Judy Garland will be held in July, showcasing timeless tunes from classic films like The Wizard of Oz and Meet Me in St. Louis. Meanwhile, John Williams vs. Hans Zimmer in August will see the MPO honouring two of Hollywood’s most prolific composers.
Other highlights include a Pink Floyd tribute concert in April, conducted by Brent Havens, and a special performance of Bizet’s Carmen in May to mark the 150th anniversary of the composer’s passing. The MPO will also host a Chopin Festival later in the year, featuring renowned pianists.
Sapot Lokal
On the local front, the MPO will collaborate with iconic Malaysian musicians like 90s band Slam in February and indie singer Noh Salleh in November. Additionally, Dato Syafinaz Selamat will join the orchestra in April for a classical concert, while Parade Hujan, a popular Indonesian band, will perform in June.
