Christopher Nolan Tackles A Historical Thriller In The Trailer For Oppenheimer

Christopher Nolan films are bound to entertain (and often confuse). But the director is often par for course when it comes to top notch story-telling. Although showing a penchant for science-fiction and superheroes, with films such as Interstellar, Inception and the Dark Knight trilogy, Nolan has also dabbled in historical accurate stories. Oppenheimer falls into the latter category.
What’s Oppenheimer About?
The film is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book ‘American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer’ by Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin. The story centres on the former director of the Manhattan Project, which developed the first atomic bomb. However, through Nolan’s lens, audiences will be thrust into the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it.
Who’s In It?
Nolan tends to attract the crème de la crème of talents and his latest project is certainly no different. Taking the lead as the titular character is Cillian Murphy with Emily Blunt as his wife, biologist and botanist Katherine.
Oscar winner Matt Damon portrays General Leslie Groves Jr., director of the Manhattan Project, and Robert Downey, Jr. plays Lewis Strauss, a founding commissioner of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission.
Additional cast members include Florence Pugh, Dane DeHaan, Alden Ehrenreich, Matthew Modine, Benny Safdie, Josh Hartnett, Rami Malek and Kenneth Branagh.
IMAX Or Else…
Few filmmakers can make a case an IMAX viewing and Nolan’s latest falls into that category. Oppenheimer is filmed in a combination of IMAX 65mm and 65mm large-format film photography including, for the first time ever, sections in IMAX black and white analogue photography. The epic thriller arrives in cinemas sometime in end July, check out the trailer below.
