Local Talent

Under the leadership of MPO Resident Conductor Gerard Salonga, the MPO will collaborate with talented local violinist Low Zi Yang to present Sibelius’ Violin Concerto in D minor.

ICYMI, Low became the youngest concertmaster for Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO) in 2017. It was at its 10th anniversary concert that year that he surprised the audience with his violin skills, becoming the surprising star of the concert and propelling his name forward.

He was a featured soloist in the MPYO tours to Singapore and Hong Kong, and has given solo recitals in Asia and North America. All this basically means that anyone who is lucky enough to go to this musical masterclass will have a great time.Low Zi Yang

The Origins

Born in Kuala Lumpur, Low was awarded first prizes in national and international competitions including the EuroAsia Violin Competition and Singapore Raffles International Music Festival.

The Accolades

The talented Malaysian violinist has participated in numerous summer festivals and music camps including the Meadowmount School of Music and The Heifetz Virtual Summer Institute. He has performed with many renowned musicians including cellist Marc Coppey.Low Zi Yang

An avid chamber musician, Low is currently pursuing his undergraduate studies at the Colburn Conservatory of Music, Los Angeles, the USA. The second half of the concert will feature Dvorak’s sunny and joyous Symphony No.8 in G.

The carefree spirit of this work has endeared it to generations of concertgoers. Its idyllic moods and evocations of nature call to mind other symphonies of a pastoral nature.

More Music

In addition to this, Low will also participate in a chamber concert with the MPO musicians on Tuesday, 28 November 2023 at 8.30 pm. Themed Malaysian Chamber Showcase, the concert will present works including the charming Dvorak’s Miniatures, the dynamic Kodaly’s Serenade and Ravel’s lavish Introduction And Allegro for harp, winds and strings.Low Zi Yang
