Chopard Co-President Karl-Friedrich Scheufele took centre stage twice at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève, earning significant accolades for the Swiss luxury Maison. The evening celebrated Chopard’s dedication to both artistry and sustainability, with two standout wins at this prestigious event.
The First Win
The first award, the ‘Jewellery Watch Prize,’ was presented for Chopard’s Laguna secret watch. A stunning creation from the Maison’s Haute Joaillerie workshops, this timepiece captivated the jury with its intricate design featuring 116 multicoloured shells, ethical gold, and gemstones like sapphires and topaz.
Beneath its shell-shaped cover, the watch reveals the time as well as a lustrous natural pearl. In his acceptance speech, Scheufele shared his pride in the family’s long-standing expertise in jewellery watches, particularly emphasising the craftsmanship that went into this piece, which took over 1,000 hours to create.
The Second Win
The brand also bagged the ‘Eco-Innovation Prize,’ given to Chopard’s L.U.C Qualité Fleurier model, which was crafted in the Maison’s proprietary Lucent Steel. The jury recognised Chopard’s continuous efforts to implement sustainable practices, such as using 100 percent ethical gold and maintaining a high recycling rate for its Lucent Steel timepieces.
Scheufele highlighted the significance of the award, not only as a recognition of Chopard’s pioneering work in sustainable luxury but also as an encouragement for others in the industry to follow suit.
The Qualities
These wins add to Chopard’s already impressive list of awards, reinforcing its legacy of excellence in both traditional watchmaking and innovative craftsmanship, both excellent qualities the brand has always been known for.
The Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève, often likened to the ‘Oscars’ of the watchmaking world, continues to celebrate the finest in horology, and this year, Chopard’s commitment to both beauty and sustainability stood at the forefront.
