Enjoy the traditional music of Borneo with the Malaysian Philharmonic

The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) has announced its inaugural Borneo music concert. The special showcase will take place on Saturday, 7 September 2024, at 8:30 pm at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP) in KLCC.

The Beauty Of Borneo

This landmark event celebrates the rich musical heritage of Borneo, showcasing the MPO’s dedication to promoting Malaysian music and honouring local talent through an orchestral lens. Titled “Sounds of Borneo,” this concert aims to unite Malaysians with the vibrant musical traditions of the Borneo region.

The event coincides with Malaysia Day celebrations, reflecting the MPO’s ongoing efforts to elevate Malaysian music and highlight the multicultural legacy that defines the nation. Attendees can look forward to a night of captivating performances that honour Borneo’s musical diversity.

The Main Event

Leading the MPO for this special concert is Luqman Aziz, an esteemed associate conductor, music director, and arranger with Orkestra RTM. This event will also feature an exciting debut for East Malaysian artists on the DFP stage. Vocalists Marsha Milan and Velvet Aduk from Sabah, and sape player Alena Murang from Sarawak, will bring their unique talents too.

Additionally, Marsha Milan, hailing from the Kadazan-Dusun ethnic group, will bring her 15 years of musical experience to the stage. A finalist at the Anugerah Juara Lagu (TV3) in 2022 and 2023, Marsha has released two studio albums and collaborated with prominent singers.

A Brief Intro

The concert will also feature Velvet Aduk, a passionate advocate for traditional Sabahan music. The artist has gained widespread recognition with her popular compositions “Sumandak Sabah” and “Oi Gaman.” Alena Murang, known for her international acclaim, has received accolades for her music videos and ethnography films, will also feature in this exclusive showcase.

The concert will feature a diverse program, including pieces like “Gitu’an,” “Pemung Jae,” “Sumandak Sabah,” “Insan Tadau,” “Panaon,” “Aramaitii,” “Bejugit Betanda Menari,” as well as traditional songs such as “Meno,” “Midang Midang,” “Jambatan Tamparuli,” “Put Burui,” “Datun Julud,” and “Puteri Santubong.”
