Whodunit fans will want to smarten up their wits and detective skills for the next chapter of Netflix’s popular murder mystery franchise. Directed by Rian Johnson, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery will see Daniel Craig return as detective Benoit Blanc.
The Super Sleuth Returns
Benoit Blanc returns in his most dangerous case yet. The third film featuring the celebrated, Southern-fried detective created by writer/director Rian Johnson and played by Daniel Craig,
This time around will see Blanc unraveling a brand-new murder mystery in an as-yet-undisclosed setting, surrounded by a colourful new cast of suspects.
“We’ve been very lucky with each of these movies to have gathered some of my favourite actors on the planet, and that’s absolutely the case here,” Johnson told TUDUM. “They’re also all lovely folks who get along, which is the dinner party aspect of it. When you’re making an ensemble movie like this I think that’s key.”
Making A Case
The Knives Out mystery has turned into a highly-successful franchise for Netflix. Audiences were first introduced to Blanc in 2019 in Knives Out. In the film, the detective with the signature Southern drawl was hired to investigate the death of bestselling author Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer). In that film, Blanc teamed up with nurse Marta Cabrera (Ana de Armas) to uncover the truth in a twisted case filled with angry relatives, red herrings, and fabulous knitwear.
Three years later, Blanc’s skills were called upon once more in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. This time the detective headed to Greece to peel back the layers of intrigue surrounding tech billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton) and an eclectic group of disruptors.
New Cast Of Characters
Benoit Blanc’s latest investigation will introduce fans to a new cast of colourful characters. Joining Craig on this new mystery are Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack and Thomas Haden Church.
Production of the film is currently underway in London. Written and directed by Johnson, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery comes to Netflix in 2025.
