With World Whisky Day celebrated on 18 May, design and engineering outfit, Callum and Annandale Distillery are back with another exquisite release. The new release, their second collaborative whisky consists of a single cask, peated Scotch whisky, bottled at cask strength.
Designer Spirit
Named ‘Callum 003 by Annandale’, the unique whisky signifies a continuation of a partnership devoted to masterful craftsmanship between distillery and design, with this release being the second in a series of six collectable single cask whiskies.
“Following the incredible response to our now sold-out Callum 529 by Annandale whisky and our enjoyment of the wonderful, collaborative process with Annandale Distillery, there was no question about us continuing to explore the sensory possibilities of this partnership,” said Ian Callum, design director.
“Callum 003 by Annandale is now the second in what will be a series of six exceptional and collectable whiskies. Each bottle promises a distinct sensory journey – for the eye, in the hand, and on the palate.”
Long-Standing Expertise
The award-winning Annandale Distillery is one of the oldest in Scotland. In 2014 the distillery was reborn, with cask 003 amongst the first to be filled. Aged to perfection in a fresh bourbon cask since January 2015, the yield is an exquisite, unique, peated single malt Scotch that has been hand-selected by the Callum and Annandale teams for its outstanding flavour profile.
In the glass, Callum 003 by Annandale has a pale, straw-like golden appearance. On the nose, it offers hints of steeped dried fruits, toffee, black treacle and salted caramel, with this sweetness complemented by medicinal smoky notes.
Its taste unfolds with layers of sweetness and nuttiness before expanding to hints of cooked apple and golden syrup. A back note of sweet tobacco leaves a lasting impression on the discerning palate.
Designer Vessel
The distinguished Callum 003 by Annandale whisky is encased in a bespoke, ceramic bottle, featuring the same striking design as its limited-edition sister whisky, Callum 529, which was released in May 2022, with all 240 of its bottles now sold out. The vessel’s form is dramatically sliced in half; part features sweeping organic ripples, which contrast against the silky-smooth, structured texture of the other half.
For this second edition whisky in the collection, the beautiful and luxuriously tactile bottle is finished in an immaculate ‘Pearl White’ glaze, while the striking presentation case is a vibrant and joyful ‘Sunrise’ yellow, accented by Callum ‘Vitamin C’ orange. Together, the presentation casing and spirit are memorable for the senses and elevate the whisky drinking experience.
“The ceramic bottle has a stunning quality finish that stands out in typically glass-filled drinks cabinets,” adds Callum. “The vibrant, colourful boxes have been curated to sit together beautifully, creating a piece of artwork in the distinguished drinks collection. Upon tasting, both design connoisseurs and whisky aficionados will be delighted at the complex and enjoyable flavour profile of this unique whisky.”
Callum 003 by Annandale is available for pre-order, priced at £350 per 70cl bottle. Deliveries are set to begin in late summer 2024. Each bottle will be delivered with an authenticity certificate.
